Program Overview

The Summer String Quartet Fellowship is a unique opportunity for students ages 13-22 (exceptions for students ages 10-12 can be made). The program offers mentorship from YAO faculty and guest artists for an intensive exploration of string quartet repertoire, all tuition-free.

Each participant will study a major work of the string quartet repertoire. Each work will be performed by a different group composed of 3 participants and one faculty member. The program is tuition-free.

  • One 2-hour rehearsal per day
  • Daily lectures and workshops discussing the session’s repertoire and its interpretation
  • Participation in a final performance at the end of the week

Daily Schedule: June 3-7, 2024, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm | UNLV Beam Music Center
Performance: June 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm | Sahara West Library
Enrollment: 6 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos

Audition Requirements

Audition Video: please include one major and one minor scale of your choice in 3 octaves. Additionally, provide two contrasting excerpts of your choice, each lasting up to 3 minutes, that best showcase your current level of playing.  Videos may be linked from YouTube or Vimeo.

Personal Statement: please explain what you hope to learn and experience from the program.
