Niko Cabrera, 14, was born in San Diego, California. He moved to Las Vegas in 2010. He has been playing the violin for four years. He started playing the violin in sixth grade at Fertitta Middle Orchestra, under the direction of Christina Hekkert. Niko continued playing with Mrs. Hekkert as his teacher for three years. Niko also joined the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra in seventh grade. He played in the Youth Ensemble under the direction of Laura Wood and Jeremy Woolstenhulme for two years and in Concert Strings under the direction of Gregory Maldonado for one year. Niko will be attending Arbor View High School and will be under the direction of Chad Mickey. Niko also was in the CSN Strings Basics Summer Camp for three years, under Mr. Jeremy Woolstenhulme’s direction. He was in the National Junior Honor Society in middle school and plans to be in the National Honor Society in high school. In his free time, Niko likes to play video games, row, play the violin and play with his dog, Ranger. In the future, Niko plans to study to become a doctor.
