Ian Fackrell, 14, born in Salt Lake City, Utah, has played violin for eight years and viola for two. He currently studies with Yunior Lopez. Ian was Concertmaster for the Vista School for the Performing Arts Advanced and Chamber Orchestras in 2016-2017, under the direction of Linda Ghidossi-Deluca, where he performed as soloist on both violin and viola. He was also principal violinist of the Vista Platinum String Ensemble. In 2017 Ian was a violinist in the Las Vegas Young Artist Orchestra (LVYAO) Symphony and performed as soloist on both viola and violin with the LVYAO Academy. Ian was chosen to play with The Piano Guys at Tuacahn Center for the Arts in 2015 and was selected for the Bryce Canyon Music Festival Honors Recital and the BYU Summer Festival Student Recital in 2017. Ian is a Southern Utah Performing Arts Festival Award Recipient and received superior ratings 6 consecutive years. Ian also received the Southern Utah Strings Festival Gold Cup and the Utah Music Teachers Association Recognition award for solo performance. He attended the Advanced Suzuki Institute at Stanford University in 2016 and won second place in the YAO Academy Music Competition in 2017. Ian has benefited from master classes with Steven Dann, Terry Durbin, Jack Arnold and David Lisker. In addition to playing strings, Ian also enjoys being a member of his school’s Student Council, Advanced and Honor Choirs, playing piano, drums, acting in school and community theatre, volunteering with his church, swimming, reading, and video editing. Ian is excited to mix things up a bit for the 2017-2018 season by playing viola in the LVYAO Symphony and Violin in the Academy.
