Carolyn Salvador Avila, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, currently 12 years old, is an 8th grader at St. Viator Catholic School, and has been playing the violin since the age of seven. She is currently studying under Ms. Bonnie Romkey. She started playing and has been a part of the Nevada School of the Arts (NSA) Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Mary Straub and privately under Mrs. Antigone Dudder. Carolyn is also a part of the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra (LVYO) Symphony, directed by Mr. Jeremy Woolstenhulme. As a member of the Las Vegas Foundation to Assist Young Musicians (FAYM), she was the concertmaster of the Orchestra, which is directed by Mr. Timothy Thomas, is part of the Advance Group, volunteered and mentored for Mr. Bryce Ingersoll’s class, and was awarded the Golden Violin Award.
Carolyn is an excellent Honor Student at St. Viator Catholic Middle School with perfect attendance every year. She enjoys playing violin weekly in her Church every Friday and Sunday with pianist & musical director Mrs. Cheri Scott and is the only Alto in their Angels All Girl Choir. In her free time she actively volunteers and enjoys performing in local senior communities/housing and elementary schools sharing her musical talents. She plays in various different festivals of the Latin Community in Las Vegas. During the holiday season, Carolyn is invited to perform at various venues in the Las Vegas Valley, including the Opportunity Village Nativity scene, the Galleria Mall, the Fashion Show Mall, and the Bellagio. She plans to study Neurology and use music to help people. Aside from her passion for music and science, Carolyn enjoys reading, traveling, and bicycling.
