Students must state their name, age, grade, and how long they've played their instrument. In addition, students must play a piece of their choice that best demonstrates their ability. The piece or excerpt of a piece can be as short as 2 minutes or no more than 10 minutes. Students may submit recordings that are longer than 10 minutes, but the panel will only review up to 5 minutes of the video. Please record at least 5 feet away from your camera/phone. Cellular phone recordings are acceptable.

If student is younger than 13, then they must receive approval from their program director to apply. Parents/Guardians acknowledge their commitment and responsibility if student is selected as an instrument recipient. Such commitments include care, maintenance, and complete responsibility of instrument, including reimbursing YAO for instrument insurance costs. Parents must attend the audition, which include an interview with members of the YAO board.
