About the Orchestra
The Academy Orchestra of the Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra was created to unite talented students at the middle school to early high school levels (up to age 15), and prepare them for our professional training orchestra, the Young Artists Orchestra. Students accepted into the program will receive free tuition, work alongside nationally and internationally recognized artists, and perform regularly throughout our yearly concert season. The repertoire for the 2016/17 season include works by Vivaldi, Corelli, Jenkins, Mozart, and more. Students are encouraged to apply by visiting our auditions page.
Meet the Conductor
Kerry Bennett, a native of Las Vegas, began her career as an educator for the Clark County School District. Since then, she has taught strings to well over 2,500 young people, and piloted the orchestra programs at two performing arts magnet schools within the school district.
An educator with a strong vision and passion for classical music, Ms. Bennett became the first middle school orchestra teacher to represent Nevada at the prestigious Midwest Clinic, as well as the American String Teachers Association National Conference. Soon after, the American String Teachers Association named Kerry Bennett as “Classroom Teacher of the Year” in Clark County.
As a conductor, Kerry Bennett has led the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra, and has been a preparatory conductor for the CCSD Honor Orchestra, as well as chairing the Middle School Honor Orchestra program for the last four years. Recently, Kerry conducted her middle school orchestras in Carnegie Hall in New York City, and Davies Hall in San Francisco. Kerry Bennett was recently named conductor of the Academy Orchestra for the Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra – the only professional training and tuition-free youth orchestra program in the state of Nevada.
